A jubilant Class of 2025 celebrated Match Day on March 21. The day started with a class meeting and breakfast, hosted by the UVA Medical Alumni Association, at the Claude Moore Medical Education Building. Students then joined family and friends on the steps of Old Cabell Hall for a class photo and celebratory toast by David Moyer, DC, followed by the Match Day ceremony where they received their much-awaited Match envelopes.

The Class of 2025 matched into 21 different specialties across 34 different states. Nineteen students matched at UVA.

Danielle Rinaldi (seen above, with her family) will be going home to New Jersey for her residency. She matched in OB/GYN at Rutgers-Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. “Match Day is the culmination of a lot of hard work over the last many, many years,” she said.

Michael Goncalves matched in psychiatry at his top choice, Duke. “Match Day is just a great day for all of us to finally get together and celebrate our hard work coming to fruition and dreams coming true. I’m so excited,” he said.

Emily Kaplan will head to UCSF for her internal medicine residency. She said, “Match Day to me is validation of all our four years of hard work and a celebration with my best friends.”

Congratulations, SMD’25! We are so proud of all you have accomplished and look forward to welcoming you as alumni in just a couple months!
